Scream VII filming pushed back as Courteney Cox casts some doubt on her return

Some new details about Scream 7 tonight although not quite what we’d hoped to hear.

The latest installment of the Scream series will see creator of the franchise, Kevin Williamson return to direct the story along with original stars Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox returning as Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers: “Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers will face Ghostface again in the seventh installment of the slasher saga.”

However, the movie, which was set to film this December has now been pushed back according to Production Weekly, and will instead film in January 2025; this is likely because Williamson is currently involved in a Netflix show and likely will be until December, so a Christmas break is probably all this is.

However, a larger issue may also be looming…

The new issue of Variety, Cox tells them that she has yet to sign on, saying: “I’m not officially signed on. I’m not, but there will be a Scream 7.”

This is a shock as it seemed that Cox and Campbell were a done deal since April this year (here), although the star does seem to imply that the issue is more down to schedule and writing, than her not wanting to do it: “They’re rewriting all the time. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on.”

Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby Reed to lead first spinoff movie from the Scream franchise

Tidbit: I’m hearing that Sidney, in the new movie, will have a teenage daughter named Tatum after Sidney’s bet friend who was murdered in the first Scream movie and was played by Rose McGowan.

I’d be very surprised if Cox didn’t return as Gale, especially since I’m hearing this is a return to the roots sequel that will explore the events of the first movie in new, unexpected ways.

What say you all? Would you like to see Scream VII without Gale? Let me know…

Another fun piece of the ‘is Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher still alive in Scream?’ puzzle pops up…
