It’s been a long long time since (proper) Robocop has graced our screens and I’m loving the fact that they’ve decided to make a sequel to the 1987 original.
Abe Forsythe, writer and director for Little Monsters has been tapped to direct the feature film that has been aptly dubbed Robocop Returns.
What’s even better is the return of original writers Richard Suckle, Ed Neumier and Michael Miner – basically the co-creators of Robocop himself – have all been named as producers.
Now a few years ago, Miner and Neumier wrote a script for a sequel with Justin Rhodes (Terminator: Dark Fate writer) however this never got off the ground under director Neil Blomkamp – who even wanted Peter Weller to return for the gig (here), but the actor refused… and then did this.
This script however will be the one that Forsythe will be working on for this sequel, so really it’s written by Forsythe and Rhodes, even though I doubt Rhodes will get any credit for it.
I’m interested to see what this movie will be like: the original creators producing this could prove to be something special and we know that Blomkamp has planned to go for a fully r-rated extraviganza like Paul Verhoeven’s orignal.
Keep tuned for more news and stay nerdy folks.
