Last year on the now deleted Film Junkie’s Vodka Steam, director of Man of Steel, Batman V Superman and Justice League, Zack Snyder discussed the future of his vision of the DC Universe.
At the time he was asked about the possibility of Netflix picking up the Snyderverse (as it’s dubbed) but his response was pretty negative in so far as it happening, with him saying: “My influence over those things is very small… That’s, as they say, above my pay grade.”
However, he was pretty positive about the possibility of continuing the story in animated form – after all, he has worked alongside DC animators before when creating the animated Tales of the Black Freighter or his adaptation of Watchmen.
Now, speaking to Empire Magazine, he was asked once again if he’d be interested in completing his Justice League trilogy in animated form and once again, he’s very receptive of the idea, saying: “Yeah, absolutely! That’d be fun. That’d be cool.”
Well, it’s confirmed, the rest of Zack Snyder’s Justice League cast are gone at DC/Warners
Now, look, with James Gunn and Peter Safran well into creating the new DC universe on screen, with every passing minute, the chances of the Snyderverse ever being completed grow less and less but, I must say, an animated movie or two seems like a great idea and certainly one that might be more possible, with the creation of animated movies being less restrictive and cheaper to do and it would also mean Snyder himself who is still developing his Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead worlds on Netflix, wouldn’t have to give as much time over to making the movies which, if he was directing in live-action would likely take the best part of five years. It would also mean that the actors wouldn’t need to devote time to the movies if they’re on other projects or they could just do the voice work.

Honestly, the Snyderverse fans, the really zealous ones at least, are something of a nightmare these days but that said, this is a story that many people were invested in and, toxic or not, there’s no question there’s a passionate fanbase out there for something like this. Honestly, I’d have thought for James Gunn, Warners and DC, this would be a no-brainer and a way to print money.
But hey, what do I know?
Would you be up for an animated end to the Snyderverse?
