Ok, so we have the MCU – the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We have the DCEU (although not officially named) – the DC Comics Extended Universe and now Sony has an official name for it’s Marvel comics movies and it’s a clinker.
We noticed on recent tweets (see below) that Sony was calling the universe – which includes Sony’s own movies that are now connected (albeit loosely) to the MCU (Venom, Morbeus, Venom: Let The Be Carnage and Kraven The Hunter) and indeed the MCU Spider-man movies and, presumably, Into the Spiderverse and its upcoming sequel (here) – the Spider-Man Universe of Characters.
That makes sense… although, given how they are all Spider-man related, I assumed it would be simply the Sony Spiderverse.
But no.
IGN has reached out to Sony to confirm if the Spider-Man Universe of Characters was the official name and it is not. Rather it is officially called… wait for it… the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.
So there you have it, welcome to the SPUMC, which sounds ruder than it should.
What do you all think? is it a winner? Let me know your thoughts, gang…
