Source Code 2 has got the green light but will be going ahead without original star Jake Gyllenhaal and director Duncan Jones.

Anna Foerster signed on to direct the follow-up to the science fiction thriller. Foerster’s credits include the Starz cable series “Outlander.” She’s a longtime collaborator with Roland Emmerich as a director of photography on “White House Down,” “Anonymous,” “10,000 B.C.,” “The Day After Tomorrow” and “Independence Day” on the visual effects camera unit.

The original stared Gyllenhaal as a soldier sent back to relive the same eight minutes of time repeatedly in the hope of preventing a train explosion.

Original director Duncan Jones will not be returning as he is deep in production on the highly anticipated Warcraft.

Source Code was rumoured to be going ahead as a TV series but now will be a straight sequel. Ben Ripley who wrote the original is returning to script the sequel.

Andrew McCarroll never quite built on the dizzying career heights that he hit at 6 years old, when as a member of the “Ghostbusters” he would charge his neighbours to remove any unwanted spectres. Now retired from slaying spooks, he spends his time obsessing over superheroes (especially Batman) and devouring shows like Dexter, Game of Thrones and Archer in a manner that would make Galactus proud.
