New and exciting details have been released for Zack Synder’s Justice League Part One which may well have confirmed the identity of the film’s main villain.

Basically, the synopsis posted online by casting website Entertainment World has claimed that Darkseid will be the main villain in the Justice League’s big-screen debut. Previous rumours had suggested that it was going to be Braniac, with Darkseid being the main villain in the second film.

The synopsis is below but be warned though, it does contain minor spoilers. So if you don’t want to know anything about the plot at all, we suggest you click away now.

“The world’s greatest heroes are assembled to form the Justice League, to combat a threat beyond each individual’s capabilities. The story involves Darkseid planning the destruction of Earth by blasting it with a ray that’ll move Apokolips into the Earth’s place.”

It remains to be seen whether or not this synopsis is accurate, but with Justice League set to begin production in the UK next year, we’ll likely find out sooner rather than later. In The New 52 continuity, Darkseid was the first villain the team faced and he’s by far their most iconic, so using him here does make a lot of sense.

Here are some details concerning Darkseid’s powers and abilities from the character’s Wikipedia entry: Darkseid is among the most powerful of the New Gods and of characters in the DC universe. His main power, the Omega Beams, is a form of energy that he fires from his eyes or hands as either a concussive force or a disintegrating energy which is capable of erasing living objects and organisms from existence. Some super-beings, such as Superman and Doomsday, have proven to be resistant to the beams, although in the case of Superman, with a great deal of pain.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25th, 2016; Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman on June 23rd, 2017; Justice League on November 17th, 2017; The Flash on March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman on July 27th, 2018; Shazam on April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14th, 2019; Cyborg on April 3rd, 2020; Green Lantern Corps on June 19th, 2020.
