Stellan Skarsgard won’t be in Thor: Ragnarok… maybe the next Avengers?

Say what you will about the Thor films, more so than almost any of the single character Marvel films, they have built up an interesting supporting cast around the lead. Be it Natalie Portman, Jamie Alexander or Kat Dennings. With all of this in mind, I was actually quite surprised to learn that Stellan Skarsgard will not be returning for Thor: Ragnarok.

In a recent interview, Skarsgard stated that: “I have a five-film deal with them, and they still have one option. Thor 3 is not on my slate, but maybe the next Avengers”.

I have to admit; I thought Skarsgard was certain to return to Thor. The character of Eric Selvig has been with Thor since the beginning, so having him missing will leave an indelible hole in the upcoming film, for me at least.

With all of this being said, we don’t know much about the story for the upcoming Thor film. Maybe the presence Selvig would crowd the story, but that doesn’t mean we won’t miss Skarsgard.
