So, good news tonight for Thor and MCU fans as it’s been revealed that, not only is Thor 4 happening, but Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi is signed on to write and direct.
However, he giveth and he taketh away as the knock-on effect is that Warner Brothers’ loooooong in development hell Akira live-action adaptation is likely going to have to be put on hold as Waititi was due to develop it too with a May 21, 2021 release date locked in and actors already in talks for roles.
Word is Warners really want Waititi for Akira so are likely to wait – with rumours the script was far from ready to go, this may be a blessing in disguise.
While there’s no further announcements, Chris Hemsworth is expected to return… will he be hitting the gym or the fat-suit? That remains to be seen.
Thoughts on Waititi returning? As much as I did enjoy Ragnarok, I felt it relied to heavily on humour and making the god of thunder the butt of the joke.
