Taika Waititi says Thor: Love and Thunder will feature two Thors

August 30th, 2019 by Geralt of Australia Comments

Whether it’s short or long hair, a hammer or an axe, built like a statue or melted ice cream, everyone loves the thunder from down under, Chris Hemsworth, as Thor and a lot of people aren’t happy that he won’t be Thor anymore with the return of Natalie Portman, however director Taika Waititi has popped up to put all your minds at ease.

Taika was at D23 this week and had a little to say on the new feature to just relax the fans a little bit saying that Thor: Love and Thunder will have both Hemsworth and Portman in the role of God of Thunder and that Natalie will not be replacing anyone.

“She’s a Thor. There’s still the other Thor, the original Thor. She’s not called female Thor. In the comics, she’s called the Mighty Thor. It comes from that comic run, I couldn’t be more happy and excited.”

So let’s have a little talk about the comics, then.

The Mighty Thor staring Jane Foster all came about when original Thor becomes unworthy, with Odinson out of commission for now, Mjolnir is passed onto Jane who becomes the beloved character.

So that answers one thing, but really we also need to take a look at another set of comics too titled The Unworthy Thor. In this series that runs parallel with The Mighty Thor we see what Thor one is doing while he’s without his hammer. The God of Thunder isn’t unarmed though as as does happen to have a giant axe called Jarnbjorn which bares a strong resemblance to the MCU’s Stormbreaker. Now, that also happens to be the same name as Beta Ray Bill’s weapon, so could we also see him in Love and War or Asguardians of the Galaxy?

Taika wants to do something a bit different than the last Thor for this and with the return of Natalie it all seems to be going exactly as planned.

With a release date of November 5th, 2021 we still have a while till it comes out, but everyone knows good things come to those who wait, so now we wait.
