The Chucky franchise is getting rebooted. And also getting sequel and a TV series which will NOT be reboots. We’re confused.

Well, if there was proof that you can’t keep a good guy down then this is it.

One of favourite franchises – yes, we admit it – is the Child’s Play franchise. Yup, good ol’ Chucky.

Don Mancini’s insane series of movies that tells the story of a toy doll possessed by the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray (voiced by the superb Brad Douriff) who just will not die… at the end of pretty much every movie (seven in all) Chucky dies but always finds a way back, like all the best cinematic monsters.

In later movies he’s been joined by his lady doll Tiffany played by the unmistakable Jennifer Tilly who also isn’t so easy to kill.

But it seems that now – gasp! – a reboot is in the works.

But don’t panic just yet. The series has been having some rights problems between Universal and MGM, MGM is moving forward with the new series under the control of IT producers Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg… so that’s a hopeful sign. The reboot is ” a contemporary reboot involving a group of kids (a la Stranger Things), and a technologically-advanced doll that enters their world.”

Wait, will it still be a possessed doll?! Who knows.

But here’s where things get… interesting.

Because the man behind the franchise from the start, as mentioned above, Don Mancini, has also said that another sequel and TV series is coming which will be a continuation of the original series.

And you thought the MCU was getting complicated.

Here’s what Mancini said: “We’re still working on the series and also plan to continue the film franchise with Universal. We intend to stay true to the universe we’ve created.”

To make things more interesting, it seems that Douriff  will be playing Chucky in the sequel and series which will be made by Universal.

We will be watching this with great interest, indeed.
