The Gambit movie has been on a roller coaster ride of “will they, won’t they” ever since intention to make the film was announced. Well, now not only are we back on the “will they” track, but it looks like we have a general idea of when filming will start.
Simon Kinberg recently appeared on The Hashtag Show and when asked about the Gambit movie the producer said, “We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning of spring of next year.” Initially the movie started to stagnate with director changes and script rewrites before being pulled from Fox’s schedule altogether, but with shooting set to start next spring we can expect the film to hit theatres in mid 2018.
Channing Tatum seems to be the only talent signed on for the movie, being described by producers as a heist film with thriller elements, though with a freshly rewritten script and a renewed vigour we’d expect more casting news to begin to trickle down fairly soon.
While personally I’m still unsure about Tatum, it can’t be much worse than his previous film incarnation. Though not as bad as the treatment Deadpool received in the Wolverine Origins movie, Gambit’s portrayal wasn’t much better. We can only hope that Fox has its head on straight going into this film after scoring a big hit with Deadpool’s redemption earlier in the year.
