Tom Wheeler, screenwriter to Puss in Boots and B.O.O: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations, has been asked by Paramount to rewrite the long awaited Micronauts movie. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were the previous writers.

The Micronauts is based on a set of Toys of the same name and adaptedby writer Bill Mantlo into a comic in 1979 for Marvel comics. The Toys themselves were first released in 1974 in Japan. The comic introduced many characters into the Marvel Universe with at least 13 original main characters appearing in the series.

References of the Micronauts have been seen in the film Ant-Man where ‘The Quantum Realm’ is believed to be the Microverse. This is not clear though. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn also had a desire to use the character Bug in the Guardians film; however he was unable to obtain the rights.

It’s unclear whether the feature will focus on the original comic ideas or the more recent comics from Image Comics and Devil’s Due Publishing. The movie will be produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot along with Paramount pictures. The movie was first announced back in 2009 and is unfortunately not set for release for a long while.
