We’ve known for some time now that the core of the original Ghostbusters  would be in the new movie…

And yes, we’ll not lie, we secretly hoped that it was secretly a sequel of sorts (once again – we have no issue with female Ghostbusters but being a reboot still grinds our gears), but now it seems that that’s certainly not the case, thanks to People magazine.

Ernise Hudson, speaking to the magazine clarified the situation: “I have a cameo. I came back, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney [Weaver], Annie Potts. So we all came to support the film. [We all] come in at quite different times.”

Speaking about the new cast, Hudson added: “They’re extraordinarily funny and there’s a great chemistry with them.I think it’s going to be very good. The script I knew was good. I knew the special effects would be amazing. But I was really pleasantly surprised to see how the women kind of gelled together.”

So, while we love the idea that Ernie, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts are all back, we would love it a lot more if they had appeared together.

In related news, we have confirmation that two other characters are back too: Mr Stay Puft and Slimer.

We’re not sure how we missed this, but in an article published last June (we know) about the licensing side of the new movie, it was clarified that the spectral characters would be back: “Classic elements from the film franchise will be making appearances in the new movie and its consumer products program such as the Ecto-1, Slimer, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, proton packs, PKE meters and more. Product is planned across all major categories including video games, costumes, toys, collectibles, consumer packaged goods, apparel, publishing and mobile games (both new and crossovers with existing games such as “Fruit Ninja”).”

No idea what capacity the two characters will be back in though.

Let us know what you think…

UPDATED:

Actor Michael K. Williams has confirmed Slimer’s presence in the movie: “I play the FBI agent who works for the mayor. Our whole thing is, we’re going to tell the people it was a flash in the sky and ‘Run along little women with your ghosts, we got this.’

“I’m not going to lie, working with Melissa, and Kristen, and Kate, was really dope, but I got to work with Slimer, dude. Like Slimer!!! I’m in a scene with Slimer! I’m a huge Ghostbusters fan and it was a dream come true.”

From the horse’s mouth as they say…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
