Jurassic World’s success seems to be opening the doors for a lot of movies lately. The most recent entry to this list is the sci-fi/romance film Passengers.

Passengers tells the story of a ship heading to colonise a planet. However, one of the passengers wakes up, tp be played by Chris Pratt 90 years early. After exhausting every option to try and be put back to sleep, Pratt decides to wake up another Passenger – Jennifer Lawrence – , and the two develop a relationship.

The script for the film was written by John Spaihts (Prometheus) and is to be directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game). Purportedly Sony was unsure about making the film due to its high budget and were even considering closing down the production.

This all changed on Monday morning with the release of Jurassic World. With Pratt cementing himself as a box office star, Sony began to feel confident the film could make its money back, and green-lit the project.

I must admit, this concept does intrigue me. I hope that it can live up to the promise of the premise, and deliver an emotional sci-fi experience. Even if it doesn’t though, I’m sure Pratt will be entertaining.
