So, you may recall some time back that it was revealed that Tom Holland, best known as the new Spider-man in the MCU, almost appeared in Sony’s Into The Spider-verse.
Last June, Holland said: “At one point I was supposed to be in it [Into the Spider-verse]
“There was going to be another Peter Parker… There was like a scene in a train station or something, and it was going to be like an Easter egg. I was going to walk through the background and say like ‘Hey, kid’ or something. Never happened. Heartbroken.”
But recently a very interesting bit of information came to light from co-writer and director of Into The Spider-verse, Christopher Miller, who revealed on Twitter that they had pitched a post-credits scene with past Spider-man actors Toby Maguire, Andrew Garfield and the current one, Tom Holland’s versions of Spider-Man interacting with Spider-Ham.
Sony’s reply? Well, it wasn’t a ‘no’, it was a ‘too soon’.
But you know when’s not ‘too soon’? October 7th, 2021 when Into the Spider-verse 2 arrives in cinemas.
Now, we’re not saying this will happen, but we are intrigued by the fact that Sony didn’t laugh him out of the office but rather left a glimmer of hope and, given how they are now building a live-action Spider-man universe as well as the animated Spider-verse, is it that far-fetched the believe it might happen?
A new rumour has it that Maguire, Garfield and Holland may be in talks with Sony about a live-action Spider-verse movie featuring all three stars which, I don’t know about you, but that would be well worth breaking lockdown for.
With Marvel’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness planned and the oft-rumour Madame Web movie from Sony, it seems that bringing alternate Spider-men (Spider-mans?) together would be a fairly easy stretch.
We already know that Micheal Keaton’s Vulture is set for the Morbius movie (here) and that there’s a fairly good chance Tom Holland will appear in Sony’s Venom sequel (here) so it looks like these shared worlds are going to clash soon… and hard!
So what say you all? Would you like to see all three back as Spider-man in a shared adventure? Honestly, if it was done as well as Into the Spider-verse, I honestly believe Sony could have an Avengers level success on its hands.
What say you all? A live-action Spider-verse? Yes, please or no thanks? Chime in…
