Much to surprise of well, no-one, it seems Marvel are indeed planning a series of Spider-man movies.
Young star Tom Holland, talking about the upcoming Spider-man: Homecoming, has revealed that Spidey, like Iron Man, Thor and Captain America before him, will be getting his own trilogy: “Yes, there is what we call the arc of the character,” Holland said.
“There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man, especially, to grow in the next two movies. He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and… go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies.”
He further clarified: “There will be a Spider-Man 2 and 3… Yeah, well now you know, sorry Marvel. Whoops!”
It’s unlikely this was a genuine slip, nor is it exactly shocking news, but it is nice to know that Spidey is home to stay, isn’t it?
Also, we’re wondering how many other MCU movies we’ll see him in first…
A young Peter Parker / Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
Spider-Man: Homecoming also stars Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Donald Glover and Tyne Daly.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming was written by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley, Jon Watts & Christopher Ford, and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Jeremy Latcham, and Stan Lee.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into theaters on July 7.
