Ok, look, I admit it, I like the Michael Bay Transformers, ok?
I’m a fan since Gen 1 (yes, I’m that old) and I make no apologies for my fandom embracing the movies… particularly the first and third ones. And I like parts of the others, like the Dinobots, the Pretenders, and other bits and pieces.
But even I may need to wonder if this is a step too far.
Details have leaked (apparently) from Transformers: The Last Knight and they sound, well, nuts.
“The story for Transformers: The Last Night will involve Optimus Prime finding his home planet, Cybertron, now a dead planet, which he comes to find he was responsible for killing. He finds a way to bring the planet back to life, but in order to do so he needs to find an artifact. And of course, that artifact is on Earth. What is that artifact?
“Somehow the artifact ties into Merlin, the magician of King Arthur lore. Apparently, the power of magic was given to Merlin by a Transformer and somehow the artifact ties into this. As far as what the artifact is, we can’t say, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it has something to do with the famed sword Excaliber.”
Given that the new movie’s logo certainly has a sword through it and, well, it’s called the last Knight, we think this could be on the money (keep scrolling):
OK, so what else?
Well, it seems that Optimus Prime (remember he left at the end of the last movie? No? Well, he did, trust us) is still missing and Bumblebee is now the leader of the Autobots, consisting of Hound, Crosshairs and Drift who live in South Dakota (yes, really), we’re also hearing the Dinobots will be there too and mini-autobots, although we’re not sure who or what they are in the context of the movie.
Oh, and Bumblebee will look like this now:

Snazzy.
Remember the time when the Autobots used to be sort of everyman cars? Yeah, me too… anyway…
There will be three new English Transformers (ugh0) and it’s speculated that this could be where Anthony Hopkins’ role will be: voicing one of these guys: “One such character is called “The Creator” who is said to have ties to the origins of the Transformers. A Transformer with an English accent named Cogman, whose alt-mode is an Astin Martin (Hopkins, calling it now – Ed), will appear, as well as a Transformer named Squeaks whose alt mode is a Vespa.”
Megatron, who was decapitated and has his spine torn out (yes, we know he’s a robot but still) in the last movie is indeed back and, like the first movie, he’ll be a jet of some sort… we’re wondering if perhaps the time travel aspect (Prime meets Merlin, ok!) might see Megatron’s resurrection.
So there you have it. Mental.
That said, we know at this stage what to expect from Bay’s movies so all we can do is sit back and hope… Transformers is rich in mythology and history at this stage, so it’s surely not too much to ask that some of this be drawn on? Seriously, we’re meeting King Arthur and still no mention of Unicron?
Anyway, let us know what you guys think…
