It looks like it’s finally happening, fans! Yes, TRON 3 is coming and tonight we have a confirmed director, star and possible title.
It is being reported that Garth Davis is set to direct the third instalment in the Disney franchise, and not TRON: Legacy’s Joe Kosinski who was previously looking set to return (here).
Davis is more known for smaller art house films like Mary Magdalene and Lion. TRON will be his first big Hollywood movie and, word is, one he fought to get.
We also now know that Jared Leto is confirmed as the star of the movie.
The star has been rumoured to appear in the movie ever since the credits rolled on TRON: Legacy, so it’s no great surprise, but it’s great to see it finally happening.
“I’m struck with such gratitude for the opportunity to bring this movie to life, especially as both the original video game and the film affected me so deeply as a young child,” Leto said on Twitter.
“The fact that I get to be a part of this new chapter is mind-blowing.”
Check out the tweets below and keep reading to find out how it seems Leto may have revealed the movie’s title.

Interestingly, in the above Tweet when Leto writes “I am so very excited and proud to confirm that YES – I will be starring in TRON”, he originally wrote he was starring in TRON: ARES.
It’s interesting because we heard before that the character Leto is set to play is called Ares (here). If he’s also getting the title of the movie, then his character is likely set to be a big deal in the TRON universe.
No word on if TRON: Legacy stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde will return – and what about the main man, Jeff Bridges?! – but we are hearing rumours that Cillian Murphy – who appeared briefly as Dillinger’s (David Warner’s villain in the first movie) son – may be set to return, fulfilling his character’s set-up in the sequel.
Oh, and yes, we believe Daft Punk (here) is back for another iconic score.
So, there you have it, folks.
Are you excited for TRON 3 (ARES)? Let me know in all the usual ways, gang…
