So first there were the Ewoks, but then there was the most hated character in Star Wars canon… Jar Jar Binks!
Remember him? The Gungan who appeared in Episode I, then to a lesser extend in Episode II and then barely registering at all in Episode III?
The character who was unwittingly manipulated into creating the clone army in Episode II: Attack of the Clones by Chancellor Palpatine because, well, let’s not mince our words, he’s an idiot.
Well some of you may remember a while back that there was a theory that Jar Jar was actually a Sith master and was behind everything that led to the destruction of the Jedi and creation of the Empire… in fact the story was given some credence by Jar Jar actor Ahmed Best himself (here).
Well, now it seems that if it WAS at one point true, it is certainly no longer part of the Star Wars mythos as the fate of Binks has been revealed in the upcoming novel Star Wars Aftermath: Empire’s End.
The story takes place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens and in one tragic part of the tale, this happens on the planet of Naboo where new character Mapo meets a Gungan in the street…
“Meesa Jar Jar,” says the clown when Mapo introduces himself.
The clown distracts the orphan from his own sadness by popping his eyes and bulging his cheeks, but is hiding a sadness of his own.
“Jar Jar makin some uh-oh mistakens,” the Gungan says, explaining why he isn’t wanted anywhere either. “Desa hisen Naboo tink I help the uh-oh Empire.” He stares into the distance, suggesting he knows more than he’s saying.
Man, this is pretty sad stuff. Jar Jar was a sad character but this has hit us a little in the feels if the truth be told.
What do you all think? Is this the fate Jar Jar deserved? Let us know…
