Venom set for Amazing Spider-man 2?

February 8th, 2013 by Marc Comments

So, we know we’re going to be meeting Electro (Jamie Foxx) in Amazing Spider-man 2 but could there be another villain hiding in the shadows?

The guys at Nerd Bastards spotted a striking similarity between a picture (above) tweeted by director Marc Webb and a panel from the Ultimate Spider-man comic that sees the introduction of… Venom!

And we must admit, we can see where they’re coming from and why else would Webb tweet a seemingly random picture of a door?

According to the guys at NB: ‘This is a scene from the Ultimate Spidey storyline that introduced Venom into the Ultimate universe. The back story there was that Peter Parker and Eddie Brock’s fathers were experimenting on a cancer cure, a black goo substance that enveloped the patient in order to treat them. The experiment, instead, was successful in creating Venom, a symbiotic life-form that has to feed on organic tissue to survive.’

We at FTN have a serious soft spot for The Amazing Spider-man and personally I believe characters like Venow could exist easier in the new movie universe than in the Raimi series – less said about THAT Venom the better, right? – but we can’t help feeling that this may be the set-up for the third movie. An end of credits hint? Or a subtle background reference? Or are we wrong an will Venom be full on? We’re looking forward to finding out.

Amazing Spider-man 2 is released on April 18, 2014

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
