So, there has been a lot of rumours recently that Marvel and Kevin Feige want the Netflix version of Daredevil (and Punisher) to join the main MCU.
And the idea of Charlie Cox returning as Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle AKA The Punisher really gets our blood pumping.
And, let’s be honest, after the ending of Spider-man: Far From Home, one thing Peter Parker (Tom HollandO is going to need is a good lawyer and surely that’s a way to get Matt Murdock into the MCU.
And of course, we have heard before that that Spider-man 3 could see Venom and/or Deadpool enter the MCU, so why not add Daredevil to that list.
Now, however, the rumour comes from someone who many (myself included) believe may have insider information… Kevin Smith!
In a recent episode of the Fatman Beyond show/podcast, Smith – who loves to get excited (don’t we all?) over these things – said to co-host Marc Bernardin that he has heard that , yes, the Netflix Marvel shows are definitely set to join the main MCU.
“I heard another piece of good f#@kin’ news,” Smith tells Bernardin.
“Did You hear that Spider-Man, the new Spider-Man movie, gonna have a lawyer in it? Charlie Cox, they’re bringing in as Matt Murdock. That’s been the rumor online and they say that’s like the one that like Marvel’s like god damn it how did that get out?”
Of course, this would be a massive, exciting piece of news for fans as, while Netflix got a lot wrong, Cox’s Murdock was not one of them.
Of course, with this possible inclusion, it means the JK Simmons’ J Jonah Jameson could exist in a New York where Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is a big bad and where Bernthal’s Frank Castle is out there.
It’s worth noting that Marvel had a period where they couldn’t use Daredevil, Punisher, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist or Luke Cage and by the time Spider-man returns, that time will be up, so the characters will all be available for the big-screen universe.
As someone who read all Marvel’s books that saw Daredevil, Punisher and Spider-man cross paths regularly, this idea actually makes me very excited.
With Marvel recently acquiring back X-Men and Fantastic Four in the Fox deal and then having made a deal with Sony that allows their universes to smash into each other, this would mean that one of the other are they/aren’t they universes could be joining up too.
That’s pretty exciting news and I hope we have more news for you soon.
The untitled third Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland and Zendaya is set for July 16th, 2021.
