WATCH: Trailer for Radio Silence’s Abigail is so much scary fun!

January 17th, 2024 by Marc Comments

Look, I was pretty much devastated when Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence, walked from Scream VII – yes, it’s still happening and yes, I’ll have an update soon – but this has really, really helped to make me feel better.

Leaving behind Ghostface, the duo are diving back into the territory of Ready of Not, their amazing 2019 movie starring Samara Weaving as a woman who marries into a family that may or may not have made a deal with the devil himself, and this is very welcome. They’re also bringing Scream star Melissa Barrera with them.

The premise of a bunch of kidnappers having accidentally (?) abducted a child vampire is both familiar and fresh and the movie demonstrates a wicked sense of humour that feels exactly in the vein – no pun intended – of Ready or Not… could this be the second installment of a shared monster universe? Man, I’d love to see that!

Anyways, the trailer is below, it’s NSFW but it’s a lot of fun, this movie just made my unmissable in 2024 list!

Children can be such monsters.

After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.

From Radio Silence—the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett behind the terrifying modern horror hits Ready or Not, 2022’s Scream and last year’s Scream VI—comes a brash, blood-thirsty new vision of the vampire flick, written by Stephen Shields (The Hole in the Ground, Zombie Bashers) and Guy Busick (Scream franchise, Ready or Not).

Abigail stars Melissa Barrera (Scream franchise, In the Heights), Dan Stevens (Gaslit, Legion), Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Freaky), William Catlett (Black Lightning, True Story), Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Angus Cloud (Euphoria, North Hollywood) as the kidnappers and Alisha Weir (Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, Darklands) as Abigail.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
