WATCH: Wait, could we actually see the three-hour cut of Batman Forever?

Look, if Ice Cube says we want the director’s cut of Batman Forever on Cameo, then, dammit, it’s the truth!

Seriously though, after the campaign for Zack Snyder’s Justice League finally bore fruit, there was hope for many other director’s cuts and alternate versions and the latest is the Batman Forever #ReleaseTheSchumacherCut.

For those not in the know, after the death of director Joel Schumacher, the fans of his first Batman movie got behind a campaign to release the full 170-minute edition of the movie.

We know it exists, it’s been long confirmed by the studio that “Schumacher did assemble a longer cut of Batman Forever that was indeed much darker in nature,” and was a darker look at the psyche of Bruce Wayne and features Tommy Lee Jones’ Two-face escaping Arkham Asylum among other extended scenes.

Now, look, I wasn’t a bit fan of Schumacher’s garish take on Gotham (I hate, hate, hate Batman & Robin) and I’ll never forgive them for not bringing back Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, but I am a big supporter of director’s visions and I would love to see this released.

And now it seems it may not be such a pipe dream.

The movie’s producer Akiva Goldsman gave a new interview (below) in which he teased that he has recently seen the full cut of the movie and that there may be something happening.

“Batman Forever still has a renaissance coming, I really am interested to see whether the original cut of Batman Forever comes out. Because I got to see it recently, the very first one, which was referred to as Preview Cut One. And it was really dark, it was a pretty psychological exploration of guilt and shame.”

So, there’s a renaissance coming? And he only recently saw the new cut? Why now? Seems to me that there could be a reason for that, no?

Unlike Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it sounds like Batman Forever’s longer cut has been finished and just needs a release… surely it’s a no-brainer for HBO Max to stick it on and give it a bit of promotion?

Anyway, that’s the story and that’s all we know, but I’d definitely be up for a watch of that… would you? Let me know.
