WATCH: Yes! Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine for Deadpool 3!

September 28th, 2022 by Marc Comments

It’s happening! We reported several times that Hugh Jackman was not as done with Wolverine as we all thought and, going back as far as 2020 (here), we said there was a chance he would be back and now… he’s back!

Ryan Reynolds took to social media late last night to report that he was hard at work on Deadpool 3, sitting on a sofa, saying: “I’ve had to really search my soul on this one, his first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth and motivation, new meaning.

“Every Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart. It has been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down, deep inside, and I have nothing.

“Hey Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds shouts before Jackman shouts back: “Yeah, sure Ryan.”

And. The. Crowd. Goes. Wild!!!

It’s also worth noting that Reynolds is seen in the video wearing the Deadpool suit which looks decidedly grey… could we be getting a different look in the MCU?

Jackman said he’d never play Wolverine again after Logan in which SPOILERS the character dies, passing the mantle on to the wonderful Dafne Keen’s X-23, even going to far as to tease in 2018 that he didn’t think the world even wanted a Wolverine/Deadpool crossover (here)… ooh, he knew.

Check out the video below:

The MCU’s 2024 schedule now includes Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, Deadpool 3 and Fantastic Four. That’s quite a line-up.

Reynolds spoke a while back about what Deadpool 3 was originally meant to be and he revealed that it was to be a road move with Wolverine and Deadpool traveling together: “Deadpool 3 was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real,” he said (here).

UPDATE: Reynolds and Jackman have returned to social media, to discuss the return as only they can and to explain that this movie does not overwrite the events of Logan which takes place in 2029, long after events in this movie:

Oh, and in case you’re wondering what they’re really saying…

Just to be clear, I don’t think this means Jackman’s Wolverine is the MCU’s Wolverine, just as Patrick Stewart and John Krazinski were in Multiverse of Madness but won’t (probably) be the MCU’s Professor X or Reed Richards (more on that in a minute) or how Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire, despite appearing in Spider-man: No Way Home, won’t be the MCU’s Spider-men (Mans?) going forward, I think this Wolverine will likely be the Wolverine we’ve known for 22 years and will probably not be staying after this movie ends.

But, just to confuse things even more, John Krasinski replied to the initial post, saying: “wait, is this our movie?” which was, in reply, replied to by Terry Crews – who starred in Deadpool 2 as X-Force member Bedlam – who wrote: “Did Belam really die?”

This is interesting because of the great suit worn to Reynolds in the video because in the comics, the suit worn by Deadpool when he’s a member of X-Force is… grey:

And, by the way yes, we know Reynolds is starring in a movie called IF directed by Krasinski but we feel there’s something to this that’s MCU related… could we see X-Force and the Fantastic Four in Deadpool 3? Only time will tell…

But, what that means for the movie? Who knows? All I can promise is that our anticipation levels for Deadpool 3 are higher than ever and it’s going to be great seeing Jackman back (at least) once more.

Deadpool 3 will be directed by Shawn Levy and will hit screens on 6th September 2024.

Now… can we perhaps have this? Just once, let the man suit up properly!
