Some new archival footage from the 1984 paranormal comedy, and FTN favourite, Ghostbusters has been unearthed just in time for the 30th anniversary.
The footage shows Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and the late Harold Ramis filming the infamous television advert for their new paranormal investigation and elimination service. It’s a fascinating watch for all ghost heads, as not only do we get Murray and Aykroyd making mistakes and occasional slip-ups, as well as a cameo from Anne Potts as Janine Melnitz, we also get an idea of some of the movies alternate titles.
Back when Ghostbusters went into production, Filmation already had the rights to The Ghost Busters, an animated show based on a live-action series of the same name, so various other back up names had to be thought up for the Columbia produced comedy. It was only when the scenes of the crowd gathered outside 55 Central Park West were being filmed for the movies finale that the producers decided they would have to get the rights to use the Ghost Busters name, as every single extra was chanting it at the top of their lungs!
