The more Marvel movies that get made, the more characters we get introduced to in one way or another. From villains, to heroes, and beyond, the Marvel universe is full of interesting people and creatures for us to encounter.

With Avengers: Age of Ultron, we’re already guaranteed to meet Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, The Vision, Ultron, and more. But according to one source, an unlikely Marvel character might get introduced as well.

Mantis, a superhero who has been a member of both the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, is rumored to be in the movie in a somewhat prominent role.

Now you wouldn’t be in the wrong if you thought this was somewhat random, however, the source all gives reasoning as to why Mantis COULD be in the film:

“This would seem to make a lot of sense as she 1) has direct ties to Thanos, 2) has even stronger ties to Vision, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch, 3) has a personal vendetta in the comics against Klaw and, most importantly 4) has been a prominent member of both The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy.”

You have to admit, that makes a pretty compelling case for the character to be in there in some way. Will she be though? Not sure, but we’ll find out soon as we draw closer to the May 1st release of Age of Ultron!

Oh, and if you’d like a backstory on Mantis, here you go:

“Mantis first appeared in Avengers #112 (June 1973), and was created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Don Heck. Mantis was born in Vietnam and her parents were forced to go on the run with her because their union wasn’t approved by her mother’s crimelord family. Her mom eventually was killed in and her dad was blinded. Papa bear took his infant daughter the Temple of the alien Priests of Pama. This is a branch of pacifict Kree who are caretakers for Cotati, a telepathic race of sentient plants. These Kree think that the infant child is Celestial Madonna, who will one day give birth to the Celestial Messiah, “the most important being in the universe.” From then on they raise and train her. Long story short, when she becomes 18 they wipe her memories and send her off into the world to receive a crash course in life.”
