When it comes to Marvel sequels, are there any as anticipated as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2? The surprise success saw the studio on top form, with fans now itching to see who will be appearing in the group of misfit’s next interstellar mission. But do we now know who the villain (or at least one of the villains) in the film will be? If the rumours are true, it’s a bizarre one.
Although nothing is concrete, this is potential spoiler territory. So if you read on, you’ve been warned.
Geek.com are reporting (via Squareeyed) that sources close to the production team on Vol 2 are saying that the character of Ego, the Living Planet is about to find his way into the MCU. It’s a strange character to pick, but a huge treat for comic fans.
And when we say huge, we mean that literally; starting its life as a regular planet, the cosmic powers of The Stranger gave it life and a consciousness, to travel the galaxy. But on his search to discover what his new life meant, the planet began to conquer other planets, when Thor stepped in and put an end to it.
Although the character hasn’t always been a villain. When Galactus, the devour of worlds looked to consume Ego, Thor returned to the planet’s defence, and the two formed a truce.
With reports coming out about the next Thor film, Ragnarok, being more of a cosmic road movie, it would almost make sense to set up or hint at the character there, then have him debut in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.
