Word is that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are back as Spider-men in third MCU Spidey movie

Pinch of salt time here, guys, although I’d say there’s something to this.

A new report is claiming that former Spider-man stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have signed on to star in the upcoming third MCU Spider-man movie alongside current Spider-man Tom Holland as the MCU dives into the Multiverse for the first time, following in the footsteps of DC.

Now, this in not entirely unexpected, with ourselves recently speculating that this may be what’s happening (here and here) after the casting of Jamie Foxx as Electro, reprising his role from Amazing Spider-man 2 and the addition to Doctor Strange whose next movie is entitled In the Multiverse of Madness, making fans wonder if he will be guiding Spider-man through the multiverse, causing him to meet other versions of himself.

If this pans out, we’re looking at a live-action version of the really rather brilliant Into the Spider-verse.

The report also claims to have some details on the plot, saying “Maguire and Garfield will appear in Tom Holland’s universe during the final act to help defeat all of the Spider-Men’s combined foes”.

The report also states that this will not be a blink-and-you’ll miss it or post-credit cameo, but will be a major part of the movie, taking in the final act of the movie.

Adding to the speculation, scooper Grace Randolph confirmed that she has heard the two stars are, indeed, in talks to join the movie, although she says she has heard that Maguire is holding out for a bigger payday. Whether this is true or not, it certainly points to the reality of us getting a live-action Into the Spider-verse and hopefully seeing a satisfactory ending for Maguire’s Spider-man but especially Garfield’s.

Let me hear your thoughts, gang…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife.
