One of the sadder announcements to come out of Toy Fair sees Hasbro being instructed by Lucasfilm to cease production of Star Wars action figures based off the hugely successful Expanded Universe.
This means no new EU figures for a very long time, and no re-released harder to find EU figures like the Nom Anor or Shae Vizla either. However, Hasbro was able to get permission to re-release Bastila Shan, Darth Malgus, the Republic Trooper and Starkiller out into the line again only due to the horrible distribution issues that plagued The Vintage Collection, which was planned in advance of the No EU Directive.
Hasbro is also quoted as saying to “not expect to ever see Jaina Solo or Jacen Solo or any other older Comic Packs figure re-released in any way to get out to collectors”. They have also said there will be a cutback on the number of prequel characters we will see released as the focus for the foreseeable future will be the Original Trilogy and the upcoming Star Wars Rebels television show. Bare in mind that this is from the prospective of action figures and not comics or video games.
Sorry to relay bad news to our Star Wars fans, but sadly, this is the situation that now faces the fanbase as we march ever forward into a new era of Star Wars collecting.
