It looks like Jack Reacher will no longer look like Tom Cruise as the series makes the jump from big screen to small.
Amazon Studios, Skydance Television and Paramount Television Studios have revealed that Titans star Alan Ritchson will take on the iconic role created by author Lee Child.
Prison Break’s Nick Santora will write and showrun the series with Christopher McQuarrie and others executive producing.
Reacher was previously brought to life by Tom Cruise who played the character in two big screen outings.
However, at the time there was a bit of fan backlash as Cruise did not fit Child’s description of Reacher who was described as big (6’5″), intrusive and blonde – none of which Cruise is.
However, Cruise DID inhabit the character pretty well and nailed the character but Ritchson fills the physicality of the role pretty well as anyone who has seen him as Hank/Hawk in that series… honestly, the guy is a tank.
Child’s stories have been at development at Amazon for over a year and the books selling over 100 million copies, so this could certainly represent a lucrative franchise for Amazon, joining John Kransinski’s Jack Reacher series at the streamer.
“Lee Child’s Jack Reacher book series is a global phenomenon with one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, and a perfect fit for Amazon Studios’ slate of bold, character-driven series,” Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke said in January.
