Are The CW thinking about a Superman show?

The CW roster of DC heroes seems to increase year on year. First it was Arrow, then Flash, then Legends of Tomorrow, and now, thanks to its move from CBS, they have Supergirl too. Who is next to join the team?

In Season 2 of Supergirl we have already seen the introduction of Superman, played by Tyler Hoechlin. Hoechlin’s portrayal of the Man of Steel has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans and critics alike. It also spurred on the idea that the hero should get his own show.

During a recent Q&A when asked about the possibility of Superman ever getting his own show, Andrew Kreisberg, the main showrunner of Supergirl, had this to say; “We’re so happy with what we get to do. I don’t mean for that to sound as bad as it does, but we asked if we could have Superman in the first episode, and DC and Warner Bros. said ‘you could have him for the first two episodes’ and we were like ‘great!’ I’m not going to sit here and say that there’s never going to be a world in which there’s a Superman TV show and that Tyler’s going to star in it – I don’t know what the future hold, but right now that’s not our focus.”

Obviously this isn’t much to go on in terms of a definitive answer. However with characters like Lios Lane and Lex Luthor getting a mention in the episodes it is clear that these characters do exist in the world and could potentially show up. What that means is that some of the main pieces for a Superman story are already in place.

I would think that sometime down the line there will be a Superman tv series. The reaction of Superman has been so positive that the CW would be mad not to have him appear more on the network. We must remember though that his appearance in Supergirl is important but it can’t be frequent. Supergirl is set around Kara’s story and we must always remember that fact.

Supergirl can be seen on Monday nights only on the CW
