Black Lightning showrunner wants to see other comic characters in the show

January 30th, 2018 by Marc Comments

We’re two episodes in to The CW’s newest instalment in their DC TV universe and we have to be honest, it’s sort of blowing our minds how good it is – and tonally very different from their other shows.

However, we’re still suckers for a shared universe and we’d love nothing more than to see Black Lightning appear annually in The CW’s crossover event. But while we wait for announcements on that one, it seems that showrunner Salim Akil wants other heroes to appear in Black Lightning, but not necessarily the ones that we already know.

Speaking to Yahoo!, Akil said he has hopes for the series becoming part of a bigger world – after all, we know there are other heroes out there, although who they are, we still don’t know who.

“I know this show is topical and it has some political merit to it, but we also want to entertain and make people laugh and get them excited about the fight sequences, and the characters that are coming in, as well as the villains that are coming in,” Akil said.

“We hope it will be a well-rounded experience so yes, we’d love to see other superheroes come through.”

But who would that be, exactly? Has he anyone in mind? Well, last year, he expressed interest in seeing Static Shock, another Character who can use electricity as a power/weapon in the show: “I love the idea of Static Shock, and in success, hopefully, we’ll be able to pull other characters in in that way. So I’m holding out hope because I love that character.”

While we would love to see characters like Static come through the Black Lightning universe, we still really want to see connective tissue between all the shows.

What about you?

Also, The CW has just released a bunch of new character posters. You can see them below.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
