Blue Beetle animated series being developed, picking up where the movie left off

June 15th, 2024 by Marc Comments

Well, as we get closer to the end of 2024, it seems that the new DC Cinematic Universe is really starting to get its head together as a new animated series has just been announced and it could be a lot of fun for sure.

Yes, Warner Bros Animation and DC Studios are developing a Blue Beetle animated series that will pick up from the events of the 2023 movie. The series has been development since the beginning of the year with The Casagrandes’ Miguel Puga working on the series as showrunner and Women of the Movement’s Cristian Martinez on writing duties. Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, director and screenwriter of the movie are set to exec produce the series.

While little is known about the series as of right now, we can report that it will be part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU and will pick up where the movie finished, meaning we might see original Blue Beetle Ted Kord appear in the series, joining Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Rayes as the current Beetle.

While no cast has been confirmed as of now, it’s confirmed that the cast of the movie have all been approached to voice their characters in the series and with Gunn saying several times that they plan to use the same actors in animation, live-action, movies and games, it’s a safe bet we will see them in various other projects in the coming years.

However, given his reaction on social media, I think we can safely assume Maridueña is returning to the role – Of course, we knew that this version of Blue Beetle would be returning in the new DCU as the young star had previously stated: “It’s been really great to work alongside James and Peter, who have graciously folded us into their new universe even though it wasn’t part of what they came up with. It’s an honor.

“Now, where Blue Beetle heads in the future? I don’t know. But I can confidently say that we will see him soon”

Over the coming weeks and months we expect to hear if Susan Sarandon wll return as the villainous Victoria Kord along with the rest of the cast including Bruna Marquezine, George Lopez, Adrianna Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Harvey Guillén, Raoul Trujillo and Becky G as the voice Khaji-Da/Blue Beetle.

Personally, I cannot wait to see what Gunn and co have planned for the DCU and am really excited for Creature Commandos to officially kick it all off later this year when the animated series his Max and officially begins the new universe although we can be pretty confident that Gunn’s Peacemaker season one, Suicide Squad and now Blue Beetle are all part of the new world… which still has us all hat FTN HQ confused.

Thoughts on a new Blue Beetle animated series set in the DCU? I wanna hear them all…
