June 7th, 2023 by Marc Comments

Iconic sci-fi series Doctor Who is bringing back another much-loved character for the upcoming series which will air in 2024.

Companion to the sixth and seventh Doctors, Melanie Bush, played by star Bonnie Langford will be back and this time she’ll meet the fifteenth Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa.

Tyler joined the series in 1986 opposite Colin Baker and then Sylvester McCoy, pictured above, and has had many years of adventures in the TARDIS since in the Big Finish audio adventures but this is the first time she will be back on screen in the much-loved role.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be bringing Melanie Bush back,” Langford has said in a statement about the return, “To be part of the exceptional cast, crew and production team led by the force of nature that is Russell T Davies is a career highlight. I’m so privileged and proud to have been a member of the Doctor Who family since the classic era and to be included in the new generation is phenomenal.”

Langford joins Sophie Aldred’s Ace McShane and Janet Fielding’s Tegan who both returned for last year’s Power of the Doctor, Ace was the companion that joined the TARDIS under Sylvester McCoy as Langford left.

Doctor Who star Sophie Aldred’s Ace is back for The Power of The Doctor in a very familiar get up!

Returning showrunner, Russell T Davies has teased that Langford won’t be a cameo but rather will be a big part of the news series, saying: “Open those TARDIS doors wide, because Bonnie’s back! What an honour, delight and hoot to welcome back the character of Melanie, after too long away. And this isn’t just a cameo, Bonnie is right in the thick of the action, battling monsters and chaos and cliffhangers, right at the Doctor’s side, just like the old days.”

Gatwa’s new Doctor, left, will hit our screens on Christmas Day for his first episode after the three-part 60th Anniversary adventure in November which will see the return of David Tennant.

It’s a big year for Doctor Who and it doesn’t get much bigger than Melanie Bush!
