Get ready for the new daily show

DC Universe’s Stargirl casts Starman, Hourman and Dr Mid-nite! And the casting is wonderful!

Holy crap, DC Universe’s Stargirl is really pulling out the stops with the new cast!

We already know Brec Bassinger will play Stargirl/Courteney Whitmore and now Community star Joel McHale has been cast as Sylvester Pemberton aka Starman.

The role is a recurring one for McHale and he’s apparently going to be in full Golden Age hero mode!

A courageous and confident superhero, Starman is a member of the Justice Society of America. He wields a mysterious anti-gravity weapon called the cosmic staff and has a longtime sidekick named Stripesy, who is better known as Courtney Whitmore’s stepfather, Pat Dugan.

Next up, S.W.A.T.‘s Lou Ferrigno Jr will be Golden Age Hourman!

Lou Ferrigno Jnr is, of course, the son of original Hulk star Lou Ferrigno and he will have a recurring role in the show as Rex Tyler.

Hourman is a master chemist and adrenaline junkie who as Hourman is a thrill-seeking superhero with the ability to manifest super-strength… for one hour a day. A founding member of the Justice Society of America, Rex/Hourman struggles with balancing his life as a hero and father.

Next up  The Haunting of Hill House‘s Henry Thomas will be popping up regularly as Golden Age Dr. Mid-Nite.

So it looks like the show is going full Justice Society Of America here and, interestingly, these characters have all been part of Legends of Tomorrow in that show’s second series but there is no connection between the two series.

Also known as the introspective surgeon Dr. Charles McNider, Dr. Mid-Nite is a brilliant and forward-thinking medical pioneer, and a founding member of the JSA. With his trusty owl, he acts as the team’s resident doctor and detective.

We love these guys and the excitement has us hoping August gets here pretty quick!

And, in case you’re wondering when all the DC Universe goodness is coming, here’s the official schedule:

Geoff Johns will write and exec produce the 13-episode series via his Mad Ghost Productions banner. The drama hails from Warner Bros Television and Greg Berlanti’s studio-based Berlanti Productions, with Sarah Schechter also serving as an exec producer.

Johns had this to say: “It’s so personal for me, and to create and run my show … this is the kind of opportunity that I couldn’t have had if I had stayed in that role.”

Johns’ late sister is the inspiration behind the show: “This is based on my sister. The character is fun and optimistic. It’s about bringing back the legacy of the Justice Society,” he says.

He also said the show would be “PG-13 show.

The show is being overseen by Arrowverse’s Grg Berlanti
