Disney+ developing a Star Wars series featuring John Boyega’s Finn

August 18th, 2021 by Marc Comments

Oh yes, this is what we’ve been holding out for!

Word on the grapevine is that, among the million shows being developed by Disney+ is a Star Wars series focusing on John Boyega’s Finn!

I flat out hated The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker but one of the things I hated most was how much Boyega’s Finn was disrespected in those two movies after being set up, like Daisy Ridley’s Rey, to be a future Jedi in the making an a potential leader of the New Republic.

However, at the end of the whole ordeal, the best we got was a few comments by Finn hinting that he may be Force sensitive. We made our thoughts known. The fans let their thoughts known. Boyega himself let his thoughts known.

And, if this pans out, it seems Disney+ listened.

Word is that JD Dillard (Sleight) and Matt Owens (Luke Cage, Agents of SHIELD) were working on a Star Wars film but now that is being repurposed to be a series focusing on Boyega’s Finn.

That Hashtag Show reports: “We’re told that John Boyega will return as Finn. the series would explore his back story, including how he came to be in the First Order. It would also show where the character is going in a post-Rise Of Skywalker world. The plot in the future will have ties and share a villain with his past; although no further info is available at this time. This series could be a replacement for the Rangers of the Republic series that’s gone by the wayside.”

Boyega famously said in 2019: “You ain’t going to Disney Plus me!”.

However, it seems he will be back for the series and recently expressed an interest in bringing Finn back for the fans (here).

Smells like more Disney reconning the disastrous trilogy to us.

This is great news! No word on if Ridley will return as Rey or if Oscar Isaac will beback as Finn (again, both criminally undermined in the second two movies in the Disney trilogy) but for now, we’ll be excited for the return of Finn and see what else the future brings.

Let me hear all your thoughts on this one, folks.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
