First look at how Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader will look in Kenobi series?

We’ve known for some time now that Hayden Christensen was returning as Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker for the Obi-Wan series opposite Ewan McGregor’s Kenobi (here) and now we have a new report from Star Wars News Net that may well be official concept art of how Vader will look for at least some of the series.

We all know that after Episode III: Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan never met Anakin/Vader again until their fateful last fight on the Death Star in Episode IV: A New Hope – as Vader said: “Last time we met I was but the learner. Now I am the master” – and we’re yet to find out of this new series will undo that in any way or if Vader and Anakin will stay apart, much like they did with Anakin and General Grevious in The Clone Wars as it was established in Episode III they had never met before.

However, we have heard rumours that Vader will be a threat in the show but from afar… after all, Vader didn’t even know Obi-Wan was on Tattooine in A New Hope, so he’ll now know where he is in this show either… we reckon the concept will be that the two meet in The Force or in Obi-Wan’s imagination; I can imagine him tortured by the memory of what became Anakin and going over it in his dreams over and over again. Or, and I love this, we may see the duo de-aged in flashbacks set during the Clone Wars… think a live-action version of Dave Filoni’s superb animated series. That would be wonderful.

Anyway, this is all mere speculation, but this piece of art,, left doesn’t seem to be.

In the past we have seen Vader, more machine than man, in various chambers, rooms and (bacta) tanks to keep him alive and now we’ll see him in another… although this new one is a bit more grim and reminds me of Robocop 2 when Robocop/Murphy is torn apart and sent back to the police station.

Anakin’s wounds are out for all to see and the fact that he’s missing his arms and, presumably, his legs, means this is a true representation of the hell this character is living in.

StarWarsNewsNet are saying this is official concept art they have received of Vader in the series and, taking them at their word, this seems to mean that the Kenobi series will be a dark chapter in the bigger Star Wars universe.

We don’t for a second think this is the only look Anakin/Vader will have in the show as we believe we’ll see a fully suited Vader but we also have a feeling we might see an unmasked version too, perhaps just wearing the respirator device.

We also know that in the past Kathleen Kennedy has called Christensen’s casting the showdown of the century, implying the duo will in fact meet face-to-face and we know that when it was announced he was cast Christensen said he couldn’t wait to work with McGregor again, implying the duo would share scenes together.

Whatever happens, we’ve very excited for Christensen’s return to the role and can’t wait to see what he and Obi-Wan do with this new, untold tale.
