We all know that Game of Thrones is left with only two more years before the saga comes to a close, but fear not… the future of George RR Martin’s world is a bright one, indeed.

It has been announced by HBO that not one, not two, not three but four spin-off series are currently in the works.

Four!?

And there’s some real talent involved in them.

While HBO would not say if the shows were sequels, prequel or would run alongside the existing series, it did reveal who were going to be involved with making the shows a reality and that they would “explore different time periods of George R. R. Martin’s vast and rich universe”.

Game of Thrones TV creators/executive producers Dan Weiss and David Benioff will not be involved in the writing of the shows but they will continue to act as executive producers.

As it is, the shows have writers in place including:

Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island)

Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Kingsman and X-Men franchises), George R. R. Martin

Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, A Knights Tale)

Carly Wray (HBO’s The Leftovers & Westword, AMC’s Mad Man), George R. R. Martin

The shows are all in development but there is no plan as to when we will see them. although we would imagine we’ll not see anything until Game of Thrones wraps next year.

Excited? Well, you should be…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
