Further Details on Minority Report Series

September 9th, 2014 by Dave Bowling Comments

The announcement was made in August that the world of Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report (of course based on Philip K. Dick’s short story “The Minority Report”) is headed to TV (We reported on it here).

The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that the series will follow a female protagonist and will be set ten years after the events of the 2002 film.

The film version stars Tom Cruise as John Anderton, a cop working for the Pre-Crimes Division of Washington DCPD, a special police unit that three people with precognitive abilities to stop murders before they happen. The television take will be set in 2064 and will follow one of the male Precogs as he attempts to live a normal life. That changes when he teams up with a female detective who has the chance to put the Precogs’ abilities to good use.

It was previously suggested that Minority Report will go after a name star for the female lead but no names have yet been lined up. The pilot will be scripted by Max Borenstein (Godzilla) and is presently in development through 20th Century Fox TV.

Dave was born at an early age to parents of both sexes. He has been a self-confessed geek for as long as he can remember, having been raised through the 80s on a steady diet of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and (sigh) Knight Rider. Throw the usual assortment of Saturday morning cartoons into the mix and we have something quite exceptional: someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of utter tosh; a love of giant robots and spaceships fighting; and the strange desire to leap tall buildings in a single bound while wearing his underpants over his trousers. The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
