Great news, Squid Game fans!
While we were all wondering what would come to be when Season 2 of the hit Korean show arrived on Netflix and now we have some, not much, but some idea what is coming.
During Deadline Contenders Television at Paramount Studios in LA yesterday, Squid Game creator, director and writer Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that two big characters are returning for the second season: “Gi-hun for sure. He will be back and I believe the Front Man will back too,” he said.
Gi Hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, was the lead character in season one and the one who eventually made it out of the game alive, with it being hinted in the final scene, that he planned on heading back to the island and uncovering more about the shadowy organisation behind the horrific events of the first season.
The Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun, was the mysterious figure who controlled and ran the games at the behest of the evil corporation he worked for… his facing off with Gi-Hun is something I prayed we’d see in season 2 and it looks like we might get it.
Dong-hyuk has previously hinted that he liked the idea of having season one star HoYeon Jung, who played a North Korean refugees caught up in the game, return as her own evil sister… that’s mental but we love it. He has also previously said that the quig Game universe is about to be blown wide open, suggesting we may see other shows set in the same reality at some stage.
Whatever happens, having Gi-Hun back is great news as he was such a great character, and seeing where he goes next will be a real blast.
Did you like Squid Game? Will you be back for a second season? Let me know all your thoughts, guys.
