After confirming that James Mangold was set to write and direct as Swamp Thing movie for the new DCU slate, James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has been laying out the timeline of other projects in the first phase of the new DCU, entitle Gods and Monsters.
If you missed the lineup (here), it looks like this:
The first five movies:
Superman: Legacy – July 11, 2025
The Authority
The Brave and the Bold
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Swamp Thing
The Television projects:
Creature Commandos
Waller
Lanterns
Paradise Lost
Booster Gold
We know that Gunn himself is writing and directing Superman: Legacy and that it will be a restart (mostly) for the DC movies and TV shows, however, we know that Gunn’s Suicide Squad cast and Peacemaker series will be part of the new line-up (even though they were part of the new line-up, yes, it’s a little confusing), which got people wondering… when will we see season 2?
Well, don’t hold your breath, folks.
Taking to Social Media, Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker wouldn’t be back until Superman: Legacy hit screens in July 2025, so it’s over two years away despite season one being last year (and also, it’s very good!).
When revealing the new DCU, Gunn revealed that the first project would be the animated series Creature Commandos, he also revealed that the plan is to use the same actors to play their role across movies, tv, animation and games. He was asked if the Waller series, starring Viola Davis as Suicide Squad boss Amanda Waller, would also arrive before Superman: Legacy, to which he replied that it would if it was finished in time.
This is not all the total of the first Phase with more projects to be announced down the line but for now, it looks like the new line-up will officially kick off with The Flash this June and as of now, we’re still not totally sure of this year’s other DC movies, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Blue Beetle and Aquaman, are part of the new lineup; worryingly, we’re not sure if, right now, anyone at DC is either.
He also confirmed there are other creatives involved in the new DCU than have been revealed so far, when asked if there were others, he replied simply ‘yes’.
Honestly, while I’ll be sad to not have Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill back as Batman and Superman, I am excited for these projects and I love the crazy direction this will take the DC universe… I just hope it all comes together.
James Gunn says a Marvel Vs DC movie event is possible in the future now he’s at DC
