JJ Abrams and HBO Max developing standalone Constantine and Zatanna shows

September 26th, 2020 by Marc Comments

Waaaaay back in April it was revealed that HBO Max was planning a Justice League Dark series under Star Wars’ JJ Abrams.

The series, while little is known at this stage, will likely focus on Constantine, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Etriga, Deadman and others but now it looks like Justice League Dark will have spinoff shows too focusing on Contantine and Zatanna and maybe others.

A new report confirms that Abrams and HBO Max are “working on supernatural shows featuring Constantine and Zatanna, among others”.

We’re hearing through other channels that Constantine and Zatanna have already been cast with announcements soon but we cannot confirm this yet although we’re hearing that Matt Ryan will not be cast again. Check out our feature on why Matt Ryan’s John Constantine could be the lynchpin to whole DC Multiverse here. And last we heard, Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke is the favourite for Zatanna (here).

Now, it’s all guess work at this stage if these shows will come before the Justice League Dark team-up or after but the idea of a dark corner of the DCEU existing on screen is pretty exciting. Although we found out not too long ago that DC Universe had planned on taking their Swamp Thing series down the road of forming the Justice League Dark before it was cancelled (here).

Anyway, let me know what you think. Are you excited to see HBO Max taking DC so seriously? Or are you suffering superhero overindulgence? Let me know your thoughts, gang.
