Karl Urban (Star Trek, Dredd) is teaming back up with J.J. Abrams for a new TV series for Fox, that we now know will be called HUMAN. The series in a high concept idea that’s described as “an action-packed buddy-cop show set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved humanlike androids.”

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Urban will play the leading role in the series. The character’s name is John Kennex, “a respected police officer who has shut down emotionally after a tragic mission that claimed the lives of nine of his fellow elite officers and left him critically injured.” THR had also previously broke that Michael Ealy will be playing Dorian, the android partner. Other cast members include Lili Taylor as the police captain, Minka Kelly, Mackenzie Crook, and Michael Irby.

The script for the series is being written by Fringe’s J.H. Wyman, so with all this awesome talent involved here, I would bet that this series is going to be great! If the network ends up liking the pilot and picks it up as a series it will be Karl Urban’s first series regular role on U.S. TV.
