We reported recently that David S Goyer’s Krypton series was looking like it was close to going to pilot at SyFy (here) and now it’s happening…
The series will be a prequel to the Superman stories, set two generations before the demise of the planet and the sending of Kal-El.
It’s unknown if the series will tie into any other DC properties – ie Man Of Steel and Batman V Superman – but it’s likely that it’s going to be a full self-contained show similar to Gotham, despite the fact that Goyer has a writing credit on both movies.
The show “will follow Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos”.
Bill McGoldrick, Executive Vice President of Scripted Content at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment said: “Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe. In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”
We’re not sure what to make of this and, in fairness, fully expect it, no matter what the setting, to be a completely independent series that will have few – if any – ties to the DC TV or movie universe.
Are you excited to see Krypton before the fall?
