With Jenna Coleman stepping down as the longest running companion of the revived series this year, fans have been left wondering what is in store for Clara Oswald come the series finale.
Showrunner Steven Moffat has teased fans attending the Italian Lucca Comic and Games festival by saying “Clara is gone and will never return”, adding ‘I can only say that what will happen will shock, surprise and terrify. Strictly in that order.’
While that may all seem rather ominous, we will have to wait to see the circumstances which lead to Clara’s ultimate departure. Fortunately, someone who is definitely sticking around for another year in the Tardis is Peter Capaldi. Moffat said in no uncertain terms that “Capaldi is going nowhere” and despite plummeting ratings the series is set to continue for quite some time: ‘It is definitely going to last five more years, I’ve seen the business plan. It’s not going anywhere. And I think we can go past that. It’s television’s own legend. It will just keep going.’
This still leaves the question of what form series 10 will take next year, with many still believing that a series of specials is in the works. But, as always, Who knows?
