We’re a little over two weeks out from The CW’s highly anticipated Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event and we now have a few new – and very revealing – images from the event.
So The CW has released several new images – mostly Superman centric with Brandon Routh’s Kingdom Come Superman, Tyler Hoechlin’s Arrowverse Superman and Smallville’s Tom Welling as Clark Kent (why would he need gloves for gardening?) – they also feature Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane and Candice Patton as Iris West and here they are:
(Continues after images)
However, they also revealed these two very revealing images.
The first is, once more, Brandon Routh only this time as Clark Kent – now Editor at The Daily Planet:
In the image he is in front of a front page focusing on a gas attack on The Daily Planet which resulted in ‘numerous fatalities’. Comic fans will know that in the darker Kingdom Come universe Joker attacks the Daily Planet with gas and kills Lois Lane, so in this universe it seems that Lois is dead.
And, if this continuing rumour that Hamill will appear as Joker in the crossover (here) turns out to be true then it is Hamill’s Joker who killed Lois!
But that’s not all, they shared our first look at Kevin Conroy (the Batman from the Arkham games and Batman: The Animated series) as an older Bruce Wayne:
You may notice he seems to be wearing some sort of neck brace… which, again, fans of Kingdom Come will recognise:
Which means that Conroy is the Batman in Routh’s Kingdom Come reality! Which is very, very cool, indeed.
However, we’re not done.
We all know that Routh’s first outing as Superman was in Superman Returns, which was a sequel to the Christopher Reeve Superman movies – well, the first two as it basically retro-erased movies three and four.
So, with this in mind, showrunner Marc Guggenheim had this chat on Twitter with a fan:
So this means a couple of things.
Firstly, Crisis On Infinite Earths is going to do something massive and wrap up the story of the Reeve Superman which started in 1978! That is so very, very cool… because not only does it mean Routh is playing the same Superman again, but he’s bringing to a close a story started over 40 years ago.
And secondly… Batman/Bruce Wayne was out there in the Reeve movies and, technically, he was Kevin Conroy!
My mind is melted. In an excited way.
Let me know your thoughts, gang.
Crisis on Infinite Earths kicks off Sunday, December 8th on Supergirl, then continues with a Monday episode of Batwoman and that Tuesday’s The Flash. After a month-long holiday break, it concludes with the Jan. 14 episode of Arrow and a special instalment of Legends of Tomorrow.
