New Quantum Leap show gets full series order at NBC

May 6th, 2022 by Marc Comments

We’re big fans of iconic 80s sci-fi series Quantum Leap here at FTN and we’ve been following the development of the new series with great interest.

And, as is probably to be expected, there’s been great news and terrible news with it – the great news includes the fact that Ghostbusters star and one of our favorite people on the planet, Ernie Hudson, will be in the show and as a character that appeared in the original series (here). The bad news is that original star Scott Bakula will likely not be appearing in the new series, despite being part of the story (here).

Everything, yes EVERYTHING, you need to know about the new Quantum Leap series

The new series will focus on Dr Ben Seong, a new character played by Raymond Lee who is described as a world-renowned physicist and a man of faith. 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett (Bakula in the original series) stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished, a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.

We have learned that the sequel/reboot, which has recently filmed a pilot, has been given a full series order by NBC.

We hope that this show stays true to the original but we have serious apprehension… let’s hope we’re wrong on this one.

No word on when the new sow will air but we will keep you posted…

It’s been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished.

Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.

Embracing the iconic series’ signature blend of humor, heart, and history, this reboot expands upon the Quantum Leap universe, taking us on a thrilling journey across space and time, exploring the timeless notion of what it’s like to walk in another person’s shoes, and the enduring value of changing lives for the better.

Lee plays the lead, Dr. Ben Seong, a world-renowned physicist working on a time-travel project known as Quantum Leap who gets stuck in the late 1980s with amnesia after using the technology.

Hudson portrays Herbert “Magic” Williams, a Vietnam veteran and head of the time travel project at Quantum Leap. Using a bit of politicking and his military know-how to keep the Pentagon at bay, Magic buys the team some time to rescue Ben but expects answers once he’s back.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
