Red Dwarf Season XI confirmed

August 13th, 2014 by Derek Robertson 9 Comments

Red Dwarf fans rejoice! For there is great reason to celebrate after hearing the news at the Sci-Fi Scarborough convention that the team are ready to start filming season XI in October, with an airdate scheduled for Autumn 2015 on Dave.

The panel at the convention comprised Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn, who confirmed the news. The only concrete bit of news that we had before this was back in January, when John-Jules stated that a new series was on the cards and was being scribed.

It has been almost a year and a half since the crew returned to grace our screens in the critically acclaimed Season X. Therefore; this news has been a long time coming. Thankfully any disconcerted Dwarfians’ can rest assured that Rimmer, Lister, Kryten and Cat will be back with more wild adventures.

Derek Robertson has dabbled in many aspects of the media industry from a young age. He has always had an admiration for, film, science fiction and all things geek-like. Working in the music industry with Sony/BMG Records gave Derek insight and experience into video directing. Thusly, for many years he took a hands-on, multi-disciplinary approach in creating and editing treatments; working with performance artists, writing and producing music and working both; in front of, and behind the camera. Studying a Msc in Forensic Psychology has embedded a conceptual ethos that has spawned his signature writing style that he now infuses whilst blogging for numerous websites; writing music reviews, movie news, and reviewing network shows et al., . Derek continues to try and erase the boundaries between the homogenous and the insanely dull, culturally enmeshing contemporary socio-political aspects into the mix of the monolithic media industry.

  1. Firstly, I’m not sure you can call it news when you’re reporting on something that happened over 4 months ago. Secondly, and more importantly, all that has been confirmed is that Doug Naylor is writing the scripts and they’re hoping for 2015 airdate. The WhatCulture piece that you’ve used as your source is misleading – the cast being asked about their availability is not confirmation that anything will happen on those dates. (Red Dwarf movie anyone?!) Do you really think that if it was all confirmed, with filming and air dates set, that GNP and UKTV wouldn’t have their marketing machine whirring by now?

What’s incredibly frustrating is that if/when we finally do get official confirmation of a new series, because of misleading posts like yours people are going to think it’s old news.

    • We’ve checked several sources and they are all reporting that the series will start filming next month. We don’t make the news guys, we merely report it.

      • Several sources? You state the source as the WhatCulture article. What other sources do you have that aren’t based on that? I’d be genuinely interested to know. Are any of your sources actual official outlets which are in any way related to Red Dwarf or the production company? What new information do you have that makes this news and not incredibly delayed reporting on misinformation posted online over 4 months ago?
