Samuel L Jackson says we should ‘definitely’ hold out hope for Mace Windu return

We’re currently living in the Star Wars golden age, with the awful sequels behind us, we finally have exciting new content with The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor shows and all is right in the galaxy far, far away.

However, while we’ve seen Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett and others step back into the spotlight in a big way in the last couple of years, one character the fans seem very very keen to see again is Samuel L Jackson’s Jedi Master Mace Windu.

First appearing in the prequels, Windu was the second highest-ranking Jedi next to Yoda and he had many adventures during the Clone Wars before apparently dying at the hands of Anakin Skywalker [pre-Darth Vader] and the Emperor after having his arm sliced off, being electrocuted and thrown off a building – a very high building.

However, we have since learned that Mace didn’t die, with both George Lucas and Jackson confirming he’s still alive (here) and in the last yer or so there’s been a lot of rumors that we will see him back.

First there was the rumours of a Windu Disney+ series (here), then Jackson himself seemed to tease a return (here) and then Boba Fett star Temuera Morrison said he wants Boba and Mace to face off again if we get a Book of Boba Fett Season 2 (here).

Fans will recall that Mace killed Boba’s father, Jango, in Attack of the Clones and in the Clone Wars animated series Boba tried to get his revenge but failed:”I owe [Mace] big time for my dad…. I think we’d better let Jon Favreau know that we should have another series and I start looking for Mace,” Morrison said.

But now Jackson himself chimes in that he has spoken to Bryce Dallas Howard, who directs episodes of The Mandalorian, about possibly returning to the galaxy far, far away… and he seems optimistic about it

When asked in a new interview if we should hold out hope that Mace will return, Jackon replied: “Definitely!”

“There’s a huge history of people with one hand returning in Star Wars… The only person I’ve ever said that to about coming back was Bryce Dallas Howard, ’cause I just did a movie with her. And she directs episodes of The Mandalorian, so, ‘You think you might be able to hook a brother up? I mean you like me, right?’ She’s like, ‘I love you, you’re amazing!’ So, ‘Put me back in there… Put me in coach, I’m ready!’ You know, I’ll learn to lightsaber left-handed. Come on, hook me up.”

While talking to a friend earlier about Windu returning and the question of ‘but where has he been all this time?’, he replied, ‘maybe he was on Alderaan watching over Leia on the direction of Yoda’. Not going to lie, this blew my mind a bit. Obi-Wan protecting Luke and Mace protecting Leia? I’d buy that in a heartbeat!

But, look, Tem Morrison is talking about Mace coming back, Jackson is too and now we can almost bet that Howard has told Dave Filoni and John Favreau is very keen to return and we’re wondering… how long until we get this?!?

I love Mace Windu and I’d love to see him appear in Star Wars as someone who’s been in the shadows all this time, watching, learning, guiding, healing and training… until it’s time to fight once more.

Thoughts? Let me hear them, guys…

Oh, Bryce Dallas Howard just retweeted the clip of Jackson saying he’s keen to come back:
