SDCC 2018 – WATCH: Trailers for all The CW’s DC Shows arrive as does a hint at Batwoman. Plus all the news from the panels

July 22nd, 2018 by Marc Comments

Well, once of favourite things in the world is the fact that The CW has given us such a vast DC Universe on TV.

Such a thing would have been unheard of in years gone by and yes DC has this, it has the upcoming subscription service, Marvel has the vast array of shows on various networks and there’s the movies… no matter what you love or hate in there, it’s undenialable that we are very, very lucky.

And last night at SDCC The CW dropped trailers for the new seasons of their shows – Arrow, Flash Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning and teased their newest addition to the universe: Batgirl.

We know Kate Kane AKA Batgirl will appear in this year’s crossover event in November and then get her own show probably next season, but we don’t know much more.

However, from what we DO know of the comic and clip below, we’re going to guess she will be part of Supergirl’s world rather that the Legends, Arrow and Flash’s. Why? Well, the teaser concentrates mostly on Supergirl’s references to Gotham and the Batman characters (although Arrow has mentioned Bruce Wayne) and in the comics, Kate Kane is – as she is here – gay and her partner is Alex Danvers who in Supergirl has already been established as gay and is played by Chyler Leigh. So we’re going out on a limb to say that’s how it’ll be done here. Could Alex be the link between the shows? Could she even head to Gotham when the series gets picked up?

Did we learn any other cool stuff about the shows?

The Flash:

The villain will be played by American Pie star Chris Cline – he will play the villain Cicada.

Barry will have the Flash ring this season… and it will be comic influenced. Does that mean his suit will be in there? Here’s hoping… he IS getting a new costume.

One of the Wells character this season will be a detective – Sherloque Wells. Yup, we’re not kidding.

Nora, the adult daughter of Barry and Iris likes to be called XS.

Killer Frost’s origins are big in this season.

Barry gets his job back.

Lot of deaths this season…?

There’s an LGBTQ character set to appear.

The Rogues will return – younger versions – and Grodd and King Shark will team up! Yes!

The 100th episode will be directed by Tom Cavanagh

Arrow:

Diaz – shock! – will return

There is nothing heroic about Oliver this season. He is getting life hard in prison.

The longbow hunters will be in this season after being mentioned several times last year – there will be three Longbow Hunters (Red Dart, Kodiak, and The Silencer)

Supergirl:

Nicole Maines has been cast as the first transgender superhero! Nia is a new reporter at Cat-Co. She worked with cat in Washington and is now under Kara’s wing as a reporter and superhero. She is very happy to be included, and she is wide eyed. She wants to protect people and fight against discrimination.

Here’s Gizmodo’s writeup on the actress and character:

Nicole Maines, best known for her for her activism for transgender rights, will join Supergirl’s fourth season as Nia Nal, a reimagined version of Nura Nal, the precognitive hero who goes by the codename Dream Girl. Supergirl’s Nia is a young reporter working for CatCo. who transfers to the National City office and quickly finds a friend in Kara.

While Maines is relatively new to acting, she first entered the public spotlight as a teenager in 2013 when the Maine Supreme Court ruled that it was unlawful for her high school to deny her access to the girls’ bathroom. Supergirl reimagining Nia this way is monumental given that she’ll be network television’s first transgender superhero and the character is actually being played by a transgender actress, a concept that certain studios don’t seem to be able to understand that Hollywood needs way more of.

As we suggested above: “Alex is going to really “like” Kate Kane” say the show’s cast.

Manchester Black has been cast to go up against Supergirl. Manchester Black in the comics is a dangerous and manipulative psychic and telekinetic, and as the head of a team of self-styled superheroes called The Elite. On the show, Black is the type of guy who brings a knife to a gunfight and still walks away the winner. With a dark past, he easily deflects the brutality of his mission with his charm and sense of humor.

Here’s all the footage and trailers. Ejoy:

A new description of Batgirl in The CW universe has also arrived:

Kate is fully aware of how bad-ass she is whenever she enters a room, even though she prefers to put a smile on your face. Young Ms. Kane is physically and intellectually confident while being a woman who is proud to be openly gay. However, Kate still deals with her inner demons that go back to her history with her dad.

Their relationship is quite complicated as she struggles to get praise from him. She once aspired to have a successful military career, but those dreams sadly came to an end as she was kicked out of West Point once she came out of the closet. But that didn’t stop her from becoming the crime-fighting vigilante known as Batwoman.

Striking fear into the criminals she fights, Kate is someone who must also fight the complications of living a double life, both as a citizen and hero of Gotham. While she has her shield up when fighting criminals, she lets herself be vulnerable when dating women.”
